Do you like Pinterest? A few tech connoisseurs are calling Learnist the Pinterest of education. It also uses boards, but it lets you organize links into “learnings” on different subjects. There are all kinds of topics: science, arts, music, technology, politics, travel. It’s a tool that reminds us that we can be teachers and students simultaneously! The site is still in beta, but you can request an invitation to join!
So with regular decision deadlines (and a few outlying early deadlines) approaching we’re thinking you’re starting to become a bit like this:

The Story To College Scholarship of the week is FIRE’s (Foundation for Individual Rights in Education) Free Speech Essay Contest. All American high school juniors and seniors are eligible. If you are interested in education and activism, this scholarship is for you. FIRE’s website provides two videos about the censorship of free speech, and their essay prompt is as follows:
Why is free speech important at our nation’s colleges and universities? Using examples from both videos, discuss how censorship of student speech is incompatible with higher education. Your essay should be 800-1,000 words.
There is one $10,000 first place prize, one $5,000 second place prize, and three $1,000 runner up prizes. The application deadline is November 25, 2012 so get writing!
